New dates for Web08/09

Web08 has been moved forward to 17-18 April 2009 — that’s right, it is now Web09.

We decided to postpone the conference when we realised we couldn’t get all the speakers we wanted for September, and we wouldn’t settle for less than the best.

We are now delighted to let you know that we have an amazing line-up of techies and designers from the US and Japan. Among these are Biz Stone from Twitter; veteran Silicon Valley manager and blogger Michael Lopp, who currently works for Apple; designer Hiroshi Yasukaw from Japan; and Phillip Fierlinger from New Zealand’s own software-as-a-service success story, Xero.

We will keep you posted as we confirm more speakers.

We’ve also got a major software player onboard for an interesting deal. We’ll be able to tell you more soon.

The venue is the same — Sky City Convention Centre in Auckland. Jot down the new dates now, Friday 17 and Saturday 18 April 2009.

We hope to see you in April!

Biz Stone (twitter.com) and Michael Lopp (randsinrepose.com) confirmed

We are pleased and excited to announce that Biz Stone will be delivering a keynote and sidenote at WEB08 in September. Biz is the co-founder and Creative Director of Twitter and also helped make Xanga, Blogger, Odeo, and Obvious. Biz has also published two books about social media.

We first met Michael Lopp at Webstock where he gave two captivating talks about design and product development, and we’re also excited to announce that he will be coming to WEB08 to present. Michael is a veteran Silicon Valley manager having wreaked havoc at companies such as Borland, Netscape, Apple, and a start-up you’ve never heard of. Michael writes under the nom de plume of “Rands” at the popular technology weblog Rands in Repose covering nerd culture, management insight, and gel pens. Michael lives in the redwood forests above Santa Cruz, California.

More to come soon. If you would like an early bird ticket, please register to join our early bird announcement list. We will email you as soon as early bird tickets go on sale, but these tickets will be sold in limited numbers so first in, first served.

WEB08 – Venue, Adobe*, Sponsor

We are very excited to announce that we have signed Computerworld as our primary media sponsor, and we’re in talks to get a second media sponsor signed which should not be to long off now.

In other news, we’re talking with Adobe’s USA-based Flash/Flex/AIR team, more details to come on this topic.

The venue has been finalised and is now SkyCity Convention Centre. After many visits to multiple venues we feel SkyCity offers the best facilities to WEB08 delegates and sponsors.
